while talking feh, let me add links to:

Oboinus - X11 background previewer and setter.
http://code.google.com/p/oboinus/
Without parameters it's a background chooser interface. With --restore option it sets background from configuration file and exits. It uses feh for actual work. Good in .xinitrc/.xsession or WM startup files.

and a bit fancier:

Nitrogen is a background browser and setter for X windows. It can be used in two modes: browser and recall.

Nitrogen looks really cool. I'll see what I can do with it.

Edit:

Nitrogen is great, I wish it didn't exist, I'll have to change all the packages again to use it as background manager.
I'd like to find a mix between oboinus and nitrogen: with oboinus you can open the directory graphically (not with nitrogen) and with nitrogen you can see all your wallpapers at once (not with oboinus).

Oboinus is written in python and gtk - only around 500 lines for the main program - shouldn't be too difficult to modify/add the functionality you require.

As I don't know python I'll see what I can do...

I just made packages for oboinus and nitrogen in 'phap' repo (add this in gslapt sources ftp://ftp.wolvix.org/wolvix/people/phap/repo/wolvix-2.0.0-beta2/ )

Thanks for those packages Phap.  Nitrogen is great.  I'm too lazy to mess with Oboinus right now.  I think I might want it for a Openbox/Fluxbox Cub version though.

Phap  (etal)
If by chance you discover an automatic wallpaper changer on the order of 20 seconds would you please post it?

Currently I have a little icon and that does the trick but I would like to build it right in to the desktop.

Thanks.

Phapla
Python is fun to play with and very robust plus you can Lingoogle tons of script. It reminds me of BASIC in some ways.
