2.0 shipped with 3 options of window managers: xfce, fluxbox and openbox.. some of us out here are installing additional wm's that we want to test out. some of these have bugs but for the sake of this poll imagine them all working correctly and vote for the one you would prefer to use on a daily basis.
when voting you might want to post which al you have tried so we know which ones you are choosing between.
my vote goes for icewm; allot lighter than xfce but not so ugly as the *boxes. i've tried the top 4 on the list.

true. window managers are not comparable to desktop enviroments.. tel it read then "windows managers that come with xfce / gnome DE.

I like Xfce as the main one but i'm not keen on the lightweight ones we have at the moment. Probably cos i haven't used them much except when i've been in trouble! I like gnome on a heavy distro but really wouldn't like it in Wolvix. An incredibly light one as a backup would be great, perhaps even more extreme than the current ones - if that's possible. I haven't explored PekWm yet. It's amazing to be able to explore stuff like this  |

I have been testing Vector Light on an old laptop and I really like the way ICEWM looks. I think it would be a good option/alternate. I don't know much about this but I don't see Enlightenment on the list. I have heard that it is lightweight.

Well, of all the WMs of this list, (except for Pekwm which I don't know), the winner is absolutely fluxbox, followed not so closely by openbox. If I could count Ede as a window manager, of course it would have win the pot. |

My vote goes to openbox. But i don't know if this should be true. I've been using #! Crunchbang for quite some time and I really like that interface. Though I've used and like Fluxbox too.
Just for fun I've also tried to become proficient with WMII and ratpoison. Talk about light weight.

I tried it, and I liked what I saw. But I couldn't manage to make it my main WM, since I lacked the motivation and need to do so. But me and DarkVision went through a darn hard time making a wolvixbuild for that WM. As for my vote, it goes to Xfce. Which is not a WM. The true WM in Xfce is called Xfwm4. And Gnome's default was earlier some thing with a weird name. Tried IceWM, JWM, Awesome, e17, but out of them all, Xfce/Xfwm4 is my go. Actually, I could like using Xfce with another WM, but since Xfwm4 fits so well with Xfce and stuff, I don't care. It does the job and looks decently, and my system doesn't need anything more lightweight as of yet. |

i was not amused by seeing Fluxbox for the first time, then i discovered tabbing. than, sadly, i fell into nitpicking and wished that windows could be resized by dragging any of their edges.
then pekwm was mentioned here but once again i was ungrateful and missed the ability for windows to be maximized horizontally/vertically with right click on the titlebar icons. i even asked the authors for that feature. actually, for a favor.
jwm and icewm seemed similar but icewm somehow takes longer to set up. xfce, probably by being more complex, allows me to *fancyfy* it most easily. it revealed that im a prostitute for real transparency. openbox, as they say, just works.
to wrap up my history of incompetence: i once installed ratpoison. oh, its badly broken. mouse doesn't work. later on i was thinking, ratpoison, rat-poison... rat poison?! ahaaa...

Hi Phap and everyone! I like your new site Phap. I know it's been up for a while and I meant to say something a while ago but I had some stuff going on.
My (ever-changing) favorites:
E17 - someone did an e17 version of the Fluxbox theme, Cthulhain. It looks good with Wolvix.
Phap Openbox
Fluxbox
JWM
I like (Openbox)LXDE too. Is it possible to combine say e17 with (Openbox)LXDE? Would that even be desirable? Maybe e17 with Xfwm4? Actually I gather that e17 is not a popular choice for Wolvix but it just seems to run really fast on my machine. MoonOS is a nice example of e17 (once you change the theme, too busy for my taste). Right now I am using MoonOS because my wife needs Citrix for work and it was easy to install. I didn't figure out how to do it on Wolvix.

during the lapse in wolvix i did a healthy stint in the crunchbang cicles where i learned the ins and outs of openbox.. openbox is now at the top of my list.. awesome and ratpoison are up there too. some of my openbox screenshots are at http://gitorious.com/canaima-gnu-linux/instalador-vivo |
