I loaded 2.0 beta on my wifes laptop and all is working well. The thing I cannot figure out how to adjust is the aspect ratio. The screen is very wide and everything is stretched from side to side. How can I adjust this to make things look normal?

i can adjust it in applications > settings > display.  there's a pull-down menu there with different screen resolutions. (i use 1280 x 768 for my widescreen.)

p.s. beware! Grin just below "resolution" in the display opts window is another drop-down menu labeled "rotation" ... my curiosity forced me to try the "inverted" option.... hahaha that'll give you a new perspective on things! (doesn't hurt anything though Smiley)

What's the resolution the laptop is using right now? And is it just the wallpaper that looks funky, or is it everything? Give us a screenshot, so we can have a look.

I have a 14x9. I have made my own wallpapers but all the XFCE bits look right. You can GIMP up the wallpapers or run Google image searches for "Extra Large images only" to get whatever eye candy you prefer. Set it as wallpaper first. If you choose "Centered" you can see what fits and crop it down so it won't distort when it stretches.

It is everything not just the wallpaper. I really notice it in Qcad where all the drawings are stretched. Right now the laptop is set at 1024x768 and that is what was setup on install. The other choices in the display setting are 800x600, 640x480 and 640x400 but it will not change to any other setting. I'll get a screen shot in a bit.

Jim what video card are you using?
1024x768 suggests you need to tune up your card. Look up the original specs for your machine. Unless it is an after market card it has the resolution capacities of your screen.
With ATI you can run ATICONFIG and add 1400 and 1600 - actually 1440X900 and 1600X1200 - to the config. The instructions are in the config.

I am running Wolvix 2.0 beta on a widescreen as well (1680x1050).  My notebook has NVIDIA divers and I had difficulties until I installed the correct drivers.  I defaulted to 1024x768, which made my screen look stretched.  After I installed my NVIDIA driver, the problem fixed itself.

I would follow YoYote's approach.  Find out what video card you have and then get the proper drivers installed.

I will keep monitoring this thread in case there is any other help I can provide.  Good luck!

I finally had the time to play with the setup on this laptop. It was just a matter of setting up the correct video driver. Once installed I went to the Nvidia X server settings and adjusted from there.  All is good now.
Thanks,
Jim
