let me be clear here - you installed wolvix to a usb key - then booted that as a live system and ran wcp installer and did a full install to hd, right?
Not sure what you mean by default mode - live mode, right

If you lose your changes then you are running a live system from hard disk - i.e. you did a frugal install - please confirm this.

In order to save your changes you need to create a persistent storage area - use the WCP, select the storage tab and use the 'create WolvixSave' function. When this process has completed, reboot and any changes you make will now be saved.

If you did  a full install you don't need to create persistent storage, all your changes are written to the hard drive and saved. It seems you are not quite clear on what you have done. Please check that you did not leave your USB key in when you rebooted - sounds like you are still booting from live media and not from a hard disk.

Reboot with no removeable media connected. If this does not work,  I recommend you perform a standard Full install (HD-install) from the Wolvix control panel.
