I've just started using Wolvix, and i'm very impressed, particularly with the range of applications, it's fantastic.

I had to do a manual install on my IBM Thinkpad 240x, which mostly went to plan but with a few small problems i had to work around, mostly concerning mounting hda3 (my /home partition, after my root and swap partitions).

Wolvix now runs and boots nicely, but there's something that's not working somewhere. The Thinkpad 240x hasn't got an internal floppy or cd drive, rather an external CD enclosure that connects via an IDE card, and a floppy drive that plugs into a funny little plug on the side.

Anyhow. If i boot the computer with either of these drives connected, they light up and go through the motions you would expect, and when i log in they are displayed on the desktop, right up to the name of the CD in the drive.

If i try and explore the CD, for example, i get the error message:

Quote
Unable to mount "name of disc":
Cannot obtain lock on /media/.hal-mtab

The same happens for the floppy drive.

Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks for your help, and Wolvix is great Smiley

What happens if you boot the system and then plug them in? Do they show up on the desktop.

With them showing on the desktop can you run the command "mount" in a terminal (no quotes) and post the output here.
