Hello... Due to the, uh, outdated nature of the 1.10 branch, I've been trying to download the 2.0.0 alpha builds from http://ftp://ftp.wolvix.org/wolvix/development/build/wolvix-2.0.0. However, wget claims the files do not exists: $ wget ftp://ftp.wolvix.org/wolvix/development/build/wolvix-2.0.0/wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso --2008-10-13 21:34:37-- ftp://ftp.wolvix.org/wolvix/development/build/wolvix-2.0.0/wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso => `wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso' Resolving ftp.wolvix.org... 81.191.158.80 Connecting to ftp.wolvix.org|81.191.158.80|:21... connected. Logging in as anonymous ... Logged in! ==> SYST ... done. ==> PWD ... done. ==> TYPE I ... done. ==> CWD /wolvix/development/build/wolvix-2.0.0 ... done. ==> SIZE wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso ... 540168192 ==> PASV ... done. ==> RETR wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso ... No such file `wolvix-2.0.0-build17.iso'.
Is this a problem with the FTP server, or should that directory not be accessible nonlocally or something?

First off, the build ISOs are not even alpha state, but I don't mind you testing them. The alpha should be out shortly. Not sure why you can't download the file(s), I've not done anything to prevent access to them. All I can say is that it works here, but then I'm also in LAN with the server.

I tried using lftpget, and apparently the server load was too high -- 29.0 (!) -- so it wasn't accepting download requests. To think I never even heard the ISO's were up

(Hey, it's the Ultima Linux guy... Cool.) Yeah, I was using wget partly because it complained of too many connections when I tried to download with Firefox... I thought that was just a problem with the FTP site at first, but it seems to be with those particular files. As for the ISOs being pre-alpha... What the heck. I'll test them as soon as I can get them.

Well I wasn't going to announce anything before I had an alpha ready, I've just uploaded the build ISOs to the FTP server so I could reach them from another test box I have. I wasn't expecting anyone to find them. The current build on my HDD is 19, but that's not alpha material either. It's coming along though, so it should be ready soon (I hope). If you guys manage to get hold of a build ISO don't expect anything, parts of it is broken and it's missing features, etc. I'll get back to working on the alpha now, so you can have something worth the download to play with.

Good thing I got the files early, before any problems occurred. I tried accessing build 17 right now with Opera -- and got this message: 550-The load was 29.97 when you connected. We do not allow downloads
550-by anonymous users when the load is that high. Uploads are always
550 allowed. Well, Wolven, if this is not even considered alpha, then I can't wait to see the beta or the full version. Build 17 works like a charm to me, though I haven't tested it that thoroughly yet. WCP was missed, though

You're just making me envious, Midnight... (Currently running Zenwalk. If the Wolvix pre-alpha is as buggy as this Zenwalk final release, I'd consider it about ready to go beta...)

Update - I just realized, I can't download *anything* from the Wolvix main FTP site, including the 1.10 ISOs. It gives me error 550 every time.
Wolven, re those connections, I just had a thought - is it possible your server may be under a denial-of-service attack?

If I was under a DoS attack I don't think you'd be able to reach this forum. I've rebooted the file server now. See if you can reach it via http://files.wolvix.org/

I am now able to reach Build 21, and it allows me to download it. So things seem to be all good now. Not going to download Build 21, though. I'll wait until the alpha is out. After all, I got a virtual frugal install of Build 17 up and running already

I probably need to update my installation -- it's still based on the CD structure from back in September. Anything new I should consider myself warned about? Oh, and I'm kind of disappointed not to see the OpenOffice.org packages I put so much time into building...

The "repo" in the development directory is just a temporary package collection I use to make the build ISOs as I've started from scratch adding just what I need. I use the "repo" to give me a clue about dependencies when I'm adding apps to the build ISO. I've uploaded the packages to the server so I can access them from VMWare and from my other test computer. It's by no means a final repo at all. It's in pre-alpha state just as the ISOs. So the OOo packages you've built will be added later along with other package updates and changes.
